The Football Match

Crowd at estadio mansiche

It is like a daily rhythm, all year long every day exactly the same. At half past six in the morning the sun goes up, and exactly 12 hours later the sun goes down. It is 6:35PM, with the last bit of daylight in our back, we take a cab from Huanchaco to the Trujillo stadium (Estadio Mansiche) to support the local football heroes in their important match against the sons of Lima.

I will be honest to you; the match was rubbish (but a ticket is only s./10). That’s not to say the evening was rubbish! With a Belgium red-devil and English soccer-hooligan at my side, this Dutch cheese-head kind of rocked the stadium by showing them how Europeans support their teams. I bet they’ve never seen such enthusiast gringo supporters, while we even didn’t know the name of their players nor the songs they sang…

The match ended in a disappointing 0-0, which is, for sure, not to blame to our support from the side of the field. Because of this support we felt the need to re-hydrate our sore throats with some well deserved beers.
