Project Tour

Otra Cosa Network has many different projects in which you can get involved as a volunteer.

When you volunteer in a single project, you don’t necessarily know what the other projects are like. So, we thought it would be nice if all of the volunteers visited several of our projects in one trip, to be aware of what other kinds of things we are involved in. It is also great to see each volunteer at their project and hear how grateful our partners are for the support each volunteer provides. We organise one of these Project Tours every couple of months to give as many of our volunteers as possible the opportunity to take part.
The last project tour was organised last Tuesday, and we had the opportunity to visit several projects:

  • A local health centre
  • A home for ex-street children
  • The garbage dump, and a support centre project to help people get ID cards (a real problem within poorer communities in Peru) and help the children get out of poverty, by helping them with their homework and developing an entrepreneurship program based around baking bread and cakes
  • A special needs school for children
  • A blind school
  • The Trujillo music conservatory
  • A project teaching photography to underprivileged children
  • A local day nursery
  • A dog shelter
  • Here’s what some of our volunteers said about the tour:

“The tour was very nice. I could know what is happening in this region even its just part of the whole issue, and also what kind of project is going on, its an encouragement for me to continue my project. Thank you so much for organizing this tour and translating.”

Yukiko Nam Isayama Japan (Volunteer at the Dog Shelter)

“The tour yesterday was an invaluable piece of my experience here in Huanchaco. I’ve seen so many different aspects of everyday life for so many lives. I felt like crying at times, then overwhelming gratitude and happiness. As the tour progressed I literally felt as though I was progressing along with it, through these experiences I’ve grown not just emotionally mentally. Thank you for being the conduit of this revelation for me!”

Justin Hyjek, United States (Volunteer at the Skate Ramp)
