HELP ENVIROMENT

Education
Throwing garbage onto the streets and dumping garbage into the ocean is often an acceptable practice and unfortunately commonplace in Peru. As such, one of our primary goals is to influence the attitudes of the local people in the hope of improving this situation. By educating youth we hope that many of the participants will go on to create positive differences and even pioneer future environmental conservation efforts. We believe that education on a grass roots level is the key to creating an aware, knowledgeable and engaged future generation!

Our work in the community:

1. The ”Yo Cuido Mi Playa” Campaign
On the first Sunday of every month, local youth from our partner schools and projects join us at the beach for fun, interactive activities based on a different environmental theme, followed by a clean-up of the beach. This campaign is a flagship event for the HELP Environment project and the entire organization and involves both the community and volunteers from all projects.
2. Community Garden
At the start of 2022, our volunteers took charge on designing and building our own community garden in our Rec Center for the community of Cerrito de la Virgen, with the objective of teaching the community about sustainable agriculture in an interactive way. The long term goal of our community garden is for it to be managed by the women of the community, by attending workshops to later replicate a small version of the garden in their homes.

3. Hydroponic Garden
Our experimental hydroponic garden at our Rec Center,  allows our kids to learn about different forms of agriculture, and connect the knowledge they get from it and the community garden with what they learn at the environment classes. By implementing this design in our garden, children get to see their food grow from start to finish, and learn about the environmental impacts of agriculture in a hands on setting.
