The very aim of the glow club is to ignite the power of girls, so that they can be active players in the world in which they live.
This is made possible by the work of local mentors who have strong ties with the communities they serve.
These mentors act as female role models dedicated to making a difference in the lives of girls. Their knowledge of the local context is key and enables them to adapt the programme to the specific needs and barriers of each community.
For several years now, our local mentors have been running the glow club programme in 4 different communities around Huanchaco: Cerrito, San Carlos, Lomas and Camelias.
Yaqui, Lia, Alexandra, Cristina and Catalina are the mentors of almost 150 young girls who - thanks to the three-year programme they run - are becoming increasingly confident advocates.
Each year's programme comprises five modules divided into 8 sessions on different themes around relationships, community, girl power, etc.
The programme is also supplemented by special activities to mark important dates such as Women's Day on 8 March, Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May, International Day of the Girl on 11 October, etc.
The importance of this programme lies in the fact that the girls have a safe place where they are encouraged to express themselves freely, to question themselves and to think critically, with the support of caring mentors.
